Peace Protestant Reformed Church Welcomes New Pastor 18-June-2008Take a drive west on 186th Street in Lansing, turn right at Stony Island Avenue, and soon you will drive past Peace Protestant Reformed Church - a small congregation that has welcomed a new minister in the past year. Peace Protestant Reformed Church is a daughter congregation of the Protestant Reformed Church formerly in South Holland, IL. South Holland PRC was organized in 1926 and first met at Bock’s Hall in Lansing, which is over what is now Gus Bock’s Ace Hardware. Peace PRC was organized in 1988 with a total of 109 members, and now has grown to a total membership of 178. Peace PRC rented Illiana Christian’s chapel for almost seven years, until the congregation’s new church building was constructed and dedicated in 1995. Peace’s first minister was Reverend Steven Houck, who served as pastor from 1990 - 2007. In the fall of 2007, Peace PRC welcomed a new minister, Reverend Clayton Spronk. Reverend Spronk grew up in Sheldon, Iowa where his family attended 1st Christian Reformed Church of Sheldon. He majored in history at Dordt College in Sioux Center, Iowa. While in college he came to love the truths taught in the Protestant Reformed Churches. After much consideration and prayer throughout high school and college, Reverend Spronk determined that God was calling him to become a minister in his senior year of college. Reverend Spronk attended the Protestant Reformed Seminary in Grandville, Michigan from 2002-2006. After graduating, he labored in the Protestant Reformed Mission Field in Sioux Falls, South Dakota for 7 months. He then received and accepted the call to be pastor of Peace PRC in Lansing. Reverend Spronk moved to Illinois with his wife Allison, and four children. Recently the Spronks were blessed with the birth of a new baby girl. When asked what he enjoys about ministering to Peace, he said, “I enjoy all aspects of the ministry, but if I had to single out one aspect that I particularly enjoy, it would have to be catechism teaching. God has blessed us with many children at Peace, and I look forward to seeing them grow in faith.” Peace PRC confesses and preaches the historic Reformed Christian faith as recorded in the Bible. Worship services centered around the preaching of God’s Word are held each Sunday at 9:30 amand 5 pm. The members strive to maintain lively and encouraging Christian fellowship and would welcome your visit.
